ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The City of Rochester has invited developers to re-imagine a prime piece of downtown real estate. A request for proposals has been issued for 125 Charlotte St., a vacant parcel in the heart of the East End near Ugly Duck Coffee.
Mayor Malik Evans said there’s potential for housing and community-focused projects on the site.
“This site represents one of the most exciting development opportunities in Rochester,” Evans stated/ “Downtown is the fastest-growing neighborhood in the city, with more residents today than ever before. This parcel is a great spot to explore homeownership opportunities or other creative uses that focus on residential services and community needs.”
Scott Pukos, a local resident, expressed his thoughts on the development.
“I think I would prefer a green space or a park, a playground or something the community can utilize,” Pukos said. “Kind of reminds me of the Parcel 5 argument. For years they were talking about redeveloping that as well — now it’s a community space. Now there’s concerts there. There’s Fringe Festival shows there. There’s food trucks, it’s for the community.”
The site is located on the former Inner Loop East, now a thriving district filled with housing, restaurants and cultural attractions.
Proposals are due by Oct. 28. More information about the parcel, including a link to the full request for proposals, click here.
