New York State shares data on confirmed COVID-19 cases on its website. According to the state, in Monroe County, there were 953 total cases this summer, a fraction of the 3,923 cases we had last summer.
Ontario County Public Health Director Kate Ott said there were 172 total cases in Ontario County this summer and 740 cases last summer. That’s a drop of about 124%.
There were 96 positive tests in Wayne County this summerm 434 fewer cases than last summer. Yates County had about 20 cases both this summer and last summer. Orleans had a significant drop, and in Livingston County there were 59 cases this summer compared to 285 last summer.
Ott says she expects to see cases increase with the new school year and as vaccination rates decline, cases will increase. She said the region will likely see preventable hospitalizations.
