The 62nd Damascus International Fair concluded its activities for 2025, running from August 27 until September 5.

More than 800 local, Arab, and international companies participated, along with representatives from 44 countries, according to Hamza.

He noted that the contracts and accompanying tourism spending are expected to stimulate the local economy, with a direct and indirect impact exceeding $120 million, in addition to creating temporary and permanent jobs and boosting the services sector (hotels, restaurants, transport, trade).

Hamza stressed that the 62nd Damascus International Fair was not merely an economic platform but also a diplomatic and cultural meeting point that brought together representatives of 44 countries in Damascus, enhancing Syria’s regional and international standing.

Subhi al-Dali, head of the fair’s internal organizing committee, told the state-run SANA news agency that the contracts and memoranda of understanding covered vital sectors including industry, agriculture, energy, tourism, and technology.

A message of stability

Transitional President Ahmed al-Sharaa inaugurated the 62nd Damascus International Fair on August 27 under the slogan “Syria Welcomes the World,” at the Damascus Exhibition Grounds in Rural Damascus, in the presence of representatives from about 20 Arab and foreign countries.

In his opening speech attended by Enab Baladi, al-Sharaa said, “Today we gather in the world’s oldest continuously inhabited capital to revive one of Damascus’ historic faces and open a new page, titled Damascus International Fair.”

He added that the new Syria has placed security stability and economic development as top priorities, with plans to boost agricultural and industrial output and facilitate the return of displaced people and refugees.

“Damascus has long been known for its industries, from metalwork and textiles to food production and tourism. It was a strategic hub for trade and industrial investment, with its products reaching many countries,” al-Sharaa said.

The opening featured performances including dramatic sketches, national songs, and dance groups, presented by Jihad Abdu, head of the General Cinema Organization.

This 62nd edition of the Damascus International Fair was the first since the fall of the Assad regime, following a six-year hiatus.
