Chase Wilkerson of Virginia Beach, Virginia, has committed to swim and study at the United States Naval Academy, beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. He trains year-round with Tide Swimming and attends First Colonial High School.

Wilkerson confirmed the commitment in an email to SwimSwam, and provided the following quote:

I’m very excited to announce my verbal commitment to further pursue my academic and athletic career at the United States Naval Academy. A special thank you to all of my family, friends, and teammates who have helped and supported me along this journey, as well as my coaches, Coach Richard, Coach Danny, and Coach Ricky. A special thank you to Coach Roberts, Coach Liscinsky, and Coach Brown for this amazing opportunity to be a part of their program and serve my country.GO NAVY, BEAT ARMY!!!

The 17-year-old’s best meet of the past season came in mid-December at the NC TAC Blizzard Blitz. His top finish was in the 100 back, where he clocked a 48.72 to place second and broke the 49-second barrier for the first time. He also dipped under 1:50 in the 200 back, recording 1:48.37 for bronze.

In freestyle, he broke through both the 46- and 1:40-second barriers, going 45.74 in the 100 free for fifth place and 1:39.21 in the 200 free to nab third. He also cracked 21 seconds in the 50 free, hitting the wall fourth in 20.69. Rounding out the meet, he posted a personal best of 4:03.91 in the 400 IM to take fifth.

All of those swims remain his career bests, with the exception of the 200 back, which he lowered to 1:47.81 at the ISCA International Senior Cup in March, where he secured third. At that same meet, he also touched second in the 50 back and fourth in the 100 back, though he was well off his best times. Those three events represented his only top-ten finishes at the competition.

Top SCY Times:

50 Freestyle: 20.69 100 Freestyle: 45.74 200 Freestyle: 1:39.21 100 Backstroke: 48.72 200 Backstroke: 1:47.81

Navy is led by head coach Bill Roberts, who is entering his 23rd season at the helm of the program. The team finished second to Army West Point at the 2025 Patriot League Championships, failing to earn the conference crown for the first time since 2005.

With two years left before he heads to Annapolis, Wilkerson’s times would already be useful to the Midshipmen at the conference meet. This past season, his lifetime bests would have earned him a spot in the ‘A’ final of the 100 back, the ‘B’ final in the 200 back and 200 free, and the ‘C’ final in the 50 free.

On the team itself, Wilkerson’s best times would have ranked him third in the 100 back, 11th in both the 200 back and 200 free, 12th in the 50 free, and 17th in the 100 free during the 2024–25 season. Sophomore Ben Irwin led the team in both backstroke events with times of 45.66 and 1:39.79, while freshman Tyler Kaminski posted 48.39 and 1:44.07 to rank second in both distances. Wilkerson will overlap with both when he arrives on campus in less than a year.

Wilkerson joins Louis St. Petery, Will Charlton, Andrew Vanas, Danny Lesinski, Gavin Tran, Paul Mullen, Tyler Koepp, and Jack Kulp in Navy’s class of 2029.
