Week One is here, and that means it’s time to join the $500,000 4for4 survivor pool (someone in the contest will literally win half-a-million dollars). Jump on your chance while you still can!
Drew Pomeranz starts for the Cubs today as an opener, despite pitching yesterday. He was really good, though, and you might recall that he previously opened against the Nationals (who have high-quality lefties at the top of their lineup), so I get it. Colin Rea should be the bulk guy to follow Pomeranz. X-Rays on Pete Crow-Armstrong’s knee were negative after he fouled one off his knee yesterday and ultimately had to leave the game. It’s a day-to-day situation for now, and we’ll just have to wait to see how he feels today (and probably the next several days, because I’d be shocked if he plays today). It’s really bad timing to have your Gold Glove center fielder have his legs compromised in any way, because even when he’s not hitting, PCA is critically important to the success of the Cubs pitching staff. Whatever happens from here, hopefully he can be 100%(ish) by the end of the month.PCA exited today's game after fouling a ball off his right knee.He finished the at-bat but left after the inning. pic.twitter.com/fDjRMM4sfE
— Marquee Sports Network (@WatchMarquee) September 6, 2025 Not great to be hoping hopes about injuries to your star center fielder AND your star right fielder at the same time, eh? Pete Crow-Armstrong described the foul ball to his knee and the decision to come out of the game:“I’m no use really out there if I’m not moving the way I should be … It was a good stinger for sure.”PCA discusses leaving Saturday’s game. pic.twitter.com/MGOEvAEJOW
— Marquee Sports Network (@WatchMarquee) September 6, 2025 Matthew Boyd was pretty awesome yesterday after a semi-rocky start, and that’s really good to see after his recent struggles. The Cubs really need him to be clicking by the end of this month. (I guess I could say that about everyone, couldn’t I?) There isn’t even a pitcher:Seiya Suzuki is currently taking practice swings alone in an empty Wrigley Field pic.twitter.com/rbQPAwF2fZ
— Zoe Grossman (@zoe__grossman) September 6, 2025 I guess it’s a visualization thing. Seiya Suzuki is hitting just .197/.330/.270/80 wRC+ in the second half, and .250/.386/.306/109 wRC+ over his last 10. Not a disaster there on that second number, but also not what the Cubs need him to be, especially without any power production. © Stan Szeto-Imagn Images Daniel Palencia always bounces back:Daniel Palencia's 2Ks in the 9th. pic.twitter.com/vrk5OYfA6j
— Rob Friedman (@PitchingNinja) September 6, 2025 Very sad news, as Davey Johnson has passed away:Former Mets manager Davey Johnson has passed away. Johnson managed the Mets from 1984-1990 and was the team's skipper for their 1986 World Series victory. He owns the highest all-time winning percentage of any Mets manager (.588).Johnson also won two World Series as a player… pic.twitter.com/Mz5VDYEr1U
— SNY (@SNYtv) September 6, 2025 Perhaps known best as a manager, Johnson had a 14-year big league career, and the last team he played for was the Cubs. Top Cubs pitching prospect Jaxon Wiggins’ Triple-A debut was a success:Cubs' top rated pitching prospect Jaxon Wiggins first Triple-A outing is over, he exits after 3 innings and Iowa leading 3-1.Wiggins' line: 3.0 IP | 2 H | 1 R | 1 BB | 4 K (46 pitches – 25 strikes)Watch: t.co/BOp9DrBnf9 pic.twitter.com/yGcRXGX21F
