Brazilian Junior Pan American Games champion Agatha Amaral will be joining the University of South Carolina Gamecocks for the class of 2026.

In August, Amaral competed at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games, where she won the girls 200 breaststroke in a new personal best time of 2:30.09. She also swam the 400 IM in 4:50.83 to finish 3rd overall, adding just over a second from her lifetime best of 4:49.58.
Amaral swam her personal best in the 400 IM in May at the Brazilian Junior Winter Championships. At that same meet, she set a new personal best in the 100 breast (1:10.80), and 200 IM (2:17.24). She won the gold at this meet in the 200 breast, 200 IM, and 400 IM.
She has some American club experience, having swam two summer seasons with the Blue Dolfins in Oviedo, Florida. Her last meet on U.S. soil was the Speedo Sectionals in Ocala in May of 2024. At that meet, she made finals in the 200 free (2:06.07), 200 breast (2:34.49), 200 IM (2:20.76), and 400 IM (4:57.28).

Amaral is a strong addition to the Gamecock roster. Her times last year would have been 2nd in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, 5th in the 200 IM, and 4th in the 400 IM.
The breaststrokers ahead of her, Elizabeth Goodwin-Birnie in the 100 and Delaney Franklin in the 200, will be a junior and senior when Amaral arrives on campus in 2026.
