The recall is in effect because the Endico frozen vegetables could potentially be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. This is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Even otherwise healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea if they ingest Listeria. The organism can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
