Damascus , SANA – A field trial run was conducted Wednesday on the railway line between Rabwa and Dummar stations in Damascus, attended by Minister of Tourism Mazen al-Salhani and Minister of Transport Yarub Badr, along with the Director General of the Hejaz Railway, Mohammad al-Ajami, Irish writer Leon Macron, and a number of specialists and stakeholders in the transport sector.
The tour included an on-site inspection of the railway route and an assessment of its technical and operational condition.
During the event, several veteran train drivers who had previously worked on this line were honored in recognition of their dedication and contributions to railway transport.
The Ministers of Tourism and Transport emphasized the importance of activating the line as a recreational tourism transport project that combines public transit with tourist appeal.
They noted that such a project would enhance tourism activity in Damascus and its surroundings, especially amid growing interest in heritage routes and sustainable development initiatives.
