Vernon Hills 4-year-old accepted into world's most prestigious high-IQ societies ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

Developmental milestones for the typical 4-year-old often include recognizing colors and counting 10 or more objects, but for a little boy from suburban Chicago, tackling three-digit multiplication and fractions are next on the learning agenda.

Zorien Royce, a 4-year-old from Vernon Hills, is one of the youngest children ever to be accepted into two of the world’s most prestigious high-IQ societies: Mensa and Intertel.

By 2-years-old, Royce was spelling words like ‘hippopotamus’ and ‘alligator’ and could count forward and backward to 100, his parents said. Now, at 4-years-old, he reads independently at a second- to third-grade level and is tracking three-digit multiplication and fractions.

“He could pick up new concepts at lightning speed and retained them effortlessly. That’s when we realized we had a very unusual little boy on our hands,” Royce’s parents, Md Naqib Alam Ansari & Monirupa Ananya, said in a release.

Royce earned an IQ score of 156 out of 160 on the WPPSI-IV Weshsler test, placing him in the “profoundly gifted” range and earning himself an acceptance to both Mensa and Intertel, his parents said.

“We didn’t want his abilities to go unnoticed or for him to feel out of place. That’s when we turned to Mensa,” his parents said in a statement. “Their resources, guidance, and community of like–minded families gave us a way to nurture his growing needs, while also keeping him grounded and connected with peers.”

The official American Mensa Instagram account recently posted about Royce, calling the young boy a “multilingual math wiz.”

His IQ testing psychologist was “visibly awestruck” by the boy’s score that nearly maxed out the scale, his parents said.

Royce is also working at a grade level more than three years above his in Kumon, an international after-school program with a focus on math and reading mastery. Plus, he is fluent in English and Bengali, with early exposure to Spanish, Hindi, and French.

When asked what he wants to be when he grows up, Zorien’s parents said he doesn’t hesitate to answer: “A NASA scientist.”

Though Zorien says the library is his “favorite place in the world,” his parents make sure he has a healthy balance in his life.

“We want to make sure Zorien enjoys being a child, plays, laughs, and grows emotionally alongside his intellectual journey,” said his father, Md Naqib Alam Ansari.

Outside of the classroom, Zorien enjoys playing soccer, swimming, running, drawing and painting, his parents said.

“Our goal isn’t to push him but to give him the right environment,” said his mother, Monirupa Ananya. “His journey, we hope, inspires other children and families to embrace curiosity and learning with joy.”

Intertel did not immediately respond to an inquiry from NBC Chicago.
