CBS and writer David Cobb just dropped their updated power rankings for quarterbacks in college football following a strong Week 1. There were many performances that stood out, but there is a new and surprising No. 1 as TCU quarterback Josh Hoover moved up from No. 10.

— David Cobb (@DavidWCobb) September 3, 2025Hoover finished 27-of-36 for 284 yards and 2 touchdowns, and he was in complete control the entire night.
Leading the SEC was Garrett Nussmeier, who stayed at No. 2 on the list. While he didn’t put huge numbers in the game, he made enough plays to help the Tigers get a huge win at Clemson.
No one moved up further on the list than Florida State QB Tommy Castellanos, who helped lead the Florida State knock off the Alabama Crimson Tide. While he finished the game with only 152 passing yards, it was the plays he made with his feet as well as his leadership that was so impressive. He added 78 rushing yards and a touchdown, and he more than backed up his comments in the off-season about Alabama’s defense.
LaNorris Sellers was the second ranked quarterback from the SEC after his performance against Virginia Tech. It wasn’t pretty throughout (his first drive was excellent), but he finished with 209 passing yards and 1 touchdown. He also delivered when the team needed most, converting huge third downs late in the fourth quarter.
Here’s a look at the rest of the SEC quarterbacks in the top 50.
