Marilu Henner, who played cabbie Elaine Nardo on ABC’s Taxi from 1978 to 1983, told The Magnificent Others podcast host Billy Corgan that her cast was historically “hotter” than other sitcom stars.
Henner told Corgan that the Taxi cast generated a unique on-screen heat, more so than other television casts during the 70s and 80s, and thereafter, with one exception. "All due respect to the Cheers cast, I always thought the Taxi cast was a hotter cast," she declared.
"I always thought the Taxi cast had more PF than most other casts. Forget about Cheers. Except for maybe Friends later."
She continued, "Like, 'Man, there was so much PF in that movie!' or 'God, I went to his new restaurant and…'" she explained before clarifying, "PF stands for p**** factor and p**** factor."
She told PEOPLE Magazine in 2022, "Tony [Danza] and I had a hot little thing right away. I knew the first day we met something was going to happen."
The cast's tight-knit relationship was evident from the show's premiere in 1978. She told the Chicago Sun-Times that the night the show first aired, she was surprised by the response she and her fellow Taxi cast members received after attending the Leon Spinks and Muhammad Ali fight at the Superdome in New Orleans.
The series was based on a magazine article
Per Britannica, the series was inspired by a New York Magazine article by Mark Jacobson. Called “Night-Shifting for the Hip Fleet,” which profiled night-shift taxi drivers in New York City. The story was developed into a series, created by television producers James L. Brooks, Stan Daniels, David Davis, and Ed. Weinberger
Marilu Henner currently portrays the character of Aida Teagarden in the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries series on the Hallmark Channel.
