Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Matthew Wolfle from Richmond, Virginia, has made a verbal commitment to swim and study at The Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University beginning in the 2026-27 school year. At the time of his commitment, he told SwimSwam:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Virginia Tech! I would like to thank my friends, family, and coaches for supporting me. I would also like to thank Coach Sergio and Coach Albert for giving me this opportunity. GO HOKIES!!!”
Since December, when he made his announcement, Wolfle has rocketed to the top of the cohort. We recently named him the #17 recruit when we ranked our top 20 boys swimmers from the high school class of 2026. He hadn’t even been a “Best of the Rest” honoree on our Way Too Early list for the same class, but with year-over-year drops of 3.3 seconds in the 100 breast, 5.2 in the 200 breast, 3.6 in the 200 IM, and 10.1 in the 400 IM, he stood out among his peers.
Wolfle is a rising senior at James River High School. At the 2025 VHSL Class 5 State Swimming and Diving Championships, he won the 200 IM (1:48.78) and 100 breast (with a PB of 54.38) and swam legs on the 200 medley (22.3 butterfly) and 400 free (45.55) relays. A year earlier, then a sophomore, he was runner-up in the IM (1:51.24) and 3rd in the breast (56.92).
Wolfle swims year-round with Nova of Virginia Aquatics. He earned all his SCY lifetime bests in breaststroke and IM a month after high school states at the 2025 NCSA Spring Championships. There, he was runner-up in the 100 breast (53.19), the 200 breast (1:55.95), the 200 IM (1:46.97), and the 400 IM (3:47.27). He placed 4th in the 50 breast (24.97) and swam legs on NOVA’s 200/400/800 free relays (splitting 20.55/44.89/1:41.85).
During long course season, he clocked PBs of 29.87/1:05.00/2:20.17 in the breaststrokes, 2:06.24/4:25.37 in the IMs, and 54.56/1:56.92/4:07.13 in freestyles.
Best SCY times:
50 breast – 24.97 100 breast – 53.19 200 breast – 1:55.95 200 IM – 1:46.97 400 IM – 3:47.27Wolfle will suit up for the Hokies with fellow class of 2030 commits Alex Grocholski and Erkhes Enkhtur. He will be joining a Sergio Lopez-led breast/IM group that has produced All-Americans Carles Coll Marti and AJ Pouch in recent years.
