ZAC JAGIELKA, son of ex-England star Phil, has been called up to represent a different country to his father.

Despite his dad collecting 40 caps for the Three Lions, Zac is instead representing Wales.

Last night he was selected for Wales‘ Under-19s Euros preparations with games against Austria and Belgium in September.

Having made several appearances for the Welsh academy in previous years, Zac will look to continue his progression towards The Dragons’ first team.

He was first selected to represent Wales in 2023 when he joined up with the U17 side.

The Hull U18s striker has been flourishing since leaving Liverpool last summer.

Zac moved to current club Hull when he was plucked from the Liverpool academy who he had been with since joining them in 2021 at the age of 13.

Father Phil shared Hull academy’s story on Instagram at the time, confirming the move, captioning their picture of Zac: “Go on Tiger!”

The versatile forward became one of 12 players to sign a two-year scholarship ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Coach Chad Gribble said: “I am really excited to have the new batch of lads coming in. It is going to be a different dynamic.

“There are lads coming from other football clubs that have decided to come on board with us, some of whom had multiple offers and we are delighted they have come on board with our program.

“That speaks volume for the way the academy is progressing that we can attract players coming out of massive football clubs and they want to be a part of what we are doing.”

Zac’s move to Hull follows the path of former Liverpool first-team stars Fabio Carvalho and Tyler Morton who both recently featured for the Tigers during loan spells at the club.

Phil Jagielka made 385 appearances for Everton during a 12 year spell at Goodison Park.

The Toffee’s captain made his first team debut in 2000 for Sheffield United where he helped them achieve promotion to the Premier League in 2006/07.

Featuring in the Championship team of the season in 2005/06, Jagielka had stints at Sheffield United, Derby County and Stoke City before announcing his retirement in 2023 at the age of 41.
