NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (KXAN) — A bride set to walk down the aisle next week is now scrambling after finding out her wedding venue in New Braunfels closed unexpectedly. The venue hasn't responded to her — or KXAN when it reached out Wednesday.
Bride Haley Gross said this happened less than a month before her big day, and she and her fiancé Bobby are out thousands of dollars.

"I had a long engagement, so I had plenty of time to check out venues, do all of the fun bride things, right," Gross said.Gross thought she found the perfect venue when they toured the West River House.

Gross told KXAN she and her fiancé signed their contract in March 2024 and paid $3,000 for their 50% venue deposit. In July 2025, she said they made their final payment.
That's when her bridal fairytale became a nightmare when she said she couldn't get in touch with West River House's owner. "I was freaking out," Gross said. A few weeks ago, she searched the venue online to see if she could find a different number, and that's when she found out it was listed as permanently closed, less than a month before her wedding day.
"And they're not responding to me by email, text, phone, call, nothing," Gross said. KXAN also tried calling the owner on Wednesday. The call went to voicemail. KXAN left a message and reached out via email and will update this story when we receive a response.
KXAN investigators found public records that show an initial bankruptcy filing for West River House on May 28, 2025. We called and emailed the attorney listed, but also received no response.
Gross said West River House's owner did send an email to her wedding coordinator a couple weeks ago saying the venue was foreclosed.
"I just think that's just really bad business," Gross said. "Really, my main concern here, is I know there has to be other people booked there."On Wednesday, the venue sat empty, with a for sale sign out front. Gross was able to find another venue. Still, they're hoping to get their money back."It's probably a lost cause, but we're definitely going to try," she said.
Records show the West River House's bankruptcy case was dismissed last month. KXAN asked the attorney for clarification on what happened. Gross said after she posted about her experience on Facebook, other people shared they had planned to get married at this venue soon as well.
