Many of the collared wolves roaming Colorado shifted east over the last month, according to a new map of their locations released Wednesday.
To the northwest, wolves that were present last month in central Moffat and Rio Blanco counties moved east, as did wolves to the south that were roaming northeast of Durango, according to the monthly map released by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Those wolves instead traveled closer to Pagosa Springs and in watersheds that include parts of Mineral, Rio Grande, Hinsdale and Archuleta counties.
Wolves were also present once again in watersheds near the Front Range, including in parts of Gilpin, Clear Creek and Boulder counties. The map shows watersheds where at least one wolf traveled between July 22 and Aug. 26.
Other wolves pushed farther south into Gunnison County, including in the watersheds immediately surrounding the town of Gunnison.
