ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The back-to-school season kicked off with a community event at the Rochester Community Sports Complex, where free supplies, including sneakers, were distributed to kids.
The second annual sneaker giveaway held on Wednesday was organized by Bruce and Nichole Blue.
“We both come from humble beginnings so we know how hard it is to have to afford sneakers for parents who have multiple kids or even single kids so we just wanted to give back,” Nichole Blue said.
The Blues also announced they will be running a coat drive in December for those in need. Donations of sneakers or coats are being accepted now.
As the start of school is near, many other back-to-school giveaways have been held or are set to be held in the area.

Also on Wednesday, the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester gave away backpacks and other school supplies to its members.
