Israeli forces killed a civilian at dawn on Tuesday, August 26, during a raid on a village in Quneitra province (southern Syria).
The state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that Rami Ahmad Ghanem was killed when Israeli shelling struck a house in the northern countryside of Quneitra.
Local activist Ahmad Abu al-Zein told Enab Baladi that Ghanem was a civilian and a war-wounded survivor of the Syrian uprising, who had lost most of his sight in a previous Syrian regime army strike.
According to Abu al-Zein, Ghanem had been visiting a friend’s house in the village at the time of the Israeli attack, and it remained unclear whether he was deliberately targeted or killed by mistake.
SANA also reported that an Israeli force, backed by over 30 military vehicles, advanced toward the village of Suwaysah in Quneitra, firing live rounds and flares. Soldiers stormed several homes and detained a young man for hours before releasing him.
The agency added that on Monday, August 25, Israeli forces conducted simultaneous incursions in rural Damascus and Quneitra, seizing control of Tal Bat al-Warda, located on the slopes of Mount Hermon.
Syrian condemnation
The Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned Monday’s incursion into the town of Beit Jinn in rural Damascus, describing Israel’s seizure of Tal Bat al-Warda with 11 vehicles and around 60 soldiers as a “flagrant violation” of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a statement on Facebook, the ministry said the escalation posed a “direct threat” to regional peace and security, calling the Israeli move a renewed display of “aggressive behavior” that defies international law and relevant UN resolutions.
The ministry stressed that such violations undermine stability and aggravate tensions, urging the United Nations and the UN Security Council to shoulder their legal and moral responsibilities, take urgent measures to deter Israel, and hold it accountable under international law to safeguard Syria’s sovereignty and unity.

Israeli raids in Quneitra have intensified over the past two days. On Monday, dozens of Israeli troops entered Beit Jinn in western rural Damascus, firing toward residents but causing no casualties.
A Damascus countryside official previously told Enab Baladi that an Israeli force of roughly 100 troops infiltrated the outskirts of Beit Jinn and Beit Jinn Farm, specifically the Bat al-Warda area overlooking the town.
The Israeli army claimed the raid was aimed at searching for “infiltrators,” according to the official, who countered that it was in fact a direct threat to the safety of civilians.

All weapons were confiscated, while several suspects were arrested and interrogated by Unit 504 field officers, based on intelligence collected in recent weeks.
