It came after Morecambe had been suspended by the National League during the summer.

As a result, their first three matches of the season were postponed amid doubts the club could complete the campaign.

However, they made a winning start to life in non-league by beating Altrincham at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium thanks to a stoppage time winner.

Fury previously provided funding to the club by sponsoring Morecambe during the 2022/23 season.

The Gypsy King has now denied any connection to his local side, though, beyond living nearby.

He lifted the lid on his relationship with the team at Cartmel Races on Monday.

The former heavyweight world champion told Racing TV: “I’m not connected to Morecambe whatsoever apart from I live there.

“I’ve never ever watched a game. They’re local, I live there but they’re nothing to do with me.

“I’m not a supporter of football really. I used to support United but because they’re in the s*** now I’m not a supporter of any football teams anymore.”

Could Fury have bought Morecambe?

Fury’s comments come just weeks after Simon Jordan urged him to save the club from extinction.

As well as previously sponsoring the club, the Tyson Fury Foundation is located at the stadium, housing a gym owned by the boxer.

Meanwhile, he saw his fortune rise to £162million over the last 12 months prior to his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

Their second bout could have taken Fury’s net worth beyond the £200million mark.

Jordan called for Fury to use some of those funds to buy Morecambe prior to the Panjab Warriors’ takeover.

He told talkSPORT last month: “I spoke to Tyson about it two years ago and he was interested [in becoming Morecambe owner].

“He wanted to do something like that; he was asking about the ideas of running a football club.

“Given the fact Tyson Fury doesn’t even pay his debts to Piers Morgan when he gets a million quid, I don’t think he’s going to put his hands in his pocket and buy a football club.

“Let’s call him out. Let’s say, Tyson Fury, the most prominent resident of Morecambe, has lots to say and is always talking about how he can help different people.

“Here’s an opportunity, Tyson. Put your hand in your pocket. You’ve got £170m in assets, buy your football club.

“Do something for somebody else besides yourself.”

Morecambe followed up their win over Altrincham with a trip to Aldershot on Monday but were beaten 4-0 away from home.

They will continue their season with a visit from winless Woking on Saturday.
