Bournemouth vs Brentford predictions
Bournemouth and Brentford attracted plenty of praise last season.
Both clubs punched above their weight to challenge for Europe, and although neither team quite got over the line, their respective finishes of ninth and 10th in the Premier League represented excellent achievements.
Indeed, these are heady times for both fan bases. Bournemouth were in League Two 15 years ago; Brentford were there 12 months earlier. With smart leadership in the dugout and in the boardroom, the Cherries and the Bees have established themselves in the top tier.
Clubs of their size can never afford to take their Premier League status for granted, however. Success for sides like Bournemouth and Brentford usually leads to vultures circling.
That is certainly what happened this summer. Bournemouth have lost virtually their entire defence from last season, with Kepa Arrizabalaga joining Arsenal, Milos Kerkez signing for Liverpool, Dean Huijsen moving to Real Madrid and Illia Zabarnyi penning a deal with Paris Saint-Germain.
In a slightly more curious move, Bournemouth have also lost Dango Outtara – to Brentford for a club-record fee.
There has been even greater change at the Gtech Community Stadium in recent months. Thomas Frank, the manager who took Brentford into the Premier League and then kept them there several years on the bounce, was poached by Tottenham Hotspur, while star man Bryan Mbeumo was sold to Manchester United.
Yoane Wissa, another key player for the Londoners last season, has been trying to force through a move to Newcastle United, while Brentford have already bid farewell to Christian Norgaard, who is now a team-mate of Kepa’s at Arsenal.
Keith Andrews, who previously worked as Brentford’s set-piece coach, was a left-field pick to succeed Frank, but the Irishman oversaw an important 1-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday. That win will have done his confidence a world of good.
Bournemouth were also triumphant by the same scoreline, as they saw off the threat of Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Vitality Stadium. Both sides recovered from defeats on the opening weekend to pick up three points on matchday two.
Attention now turns to the EFL Cup. This tournament is not really a priority for either club right now, but winning a trophy should be one of the next objectives for Bournemouth and Brentford. Crystal Palace’s success in the FA Cup last time out shows that mid-table teams can go all the way in knockout competitions.

Two Premier League teams go head-to-head on the south coast in the second round of the EFL Cup.
Bournemouth better bet to win
It is hard to predict the outcome of EFL Cup matches between two teams in the same division, especially in the early rounds.
It is hard to know the extent to which the two managers will rotate. If one names their strongest possible XI and the other makes 10 changes, that would probably decide the result.
Assuming both Andoni Iraola and Andrews shuffle things around without completely overhauling the side, Bournemouth have the edge.
Home advantage is one factor in their favour, while they also have more strength in depth at their disposal than Brentford.
Bournemouth have never beaten Brentford in the Premier League, but they may have more luck in the EFL Cup.

Goals could be at a premium
There have been more than 2.5 goals in each of the last four meetings between Bournemouth and Brentford, so it is no surprise that the bookies are offering attractive odds on the ‘under’ here.
Bournemouth and Brentford each only managed one goal last time out, and there is a possibility that both teams will wait for the other to make the play.
Bournemouth and Brentford do not play the exact same way, but they both prefer to be reactive and are often happy to allow their opponents control of the ball.
That shared interest could make this a cat-and-mouse sort of contest. On top of that, rotation could lead to less rhythm and coherence from both attacking units.
Go for under 2.5 goals at 11/8 with SBK
Evanilson can make his mark
Evanilson had a fine debut season at Bournemouth after being brought in as the replacement for Dominic Solanke.
The former Porto frontman scored 10 Premier League goals, a tally he will be looking to improve upon in 2025/26.
Evanilson looks set to start against Brentford and he will view this as a golden opportunity to open his account for the current campaign.
The Brazil international scored against the Bees last term and we like his chances of doing so in this EFL Cup tie.
