A Palatine man was arrested on several charges after allegedly crashing into a police vehicle while officers were conducting a traffic stop last week, authorities said.
James C. Argianas, 36, was charged with driving under the influence of – alcohol concentration in breath .08 or more, driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, according to police.
At approximately 11 p.m. on Thursday, two Palatine police officers were working a traffic stop on Lake Cook Road near Rand Road when a 2026 Cadillac Vistiq struck the rear of their vehicle, police said in a news release.
The patrol vehicle’s emergency lights were on at the time of the collision, and no one was hurt. The driver, Argianas, showed signs of impairment and admitted to drinking alcohol prior to the crash, police said.
Argianas was released from custody and set to appear in court on Sept. 19.
Following the incident, Palatine police issued a reminder about Illinois’ Move Over Law, which is also known as Scott’s Law. It requires drivers to change lanes if safe to do so, slow down and proceed with caution when approaching an emergency or maintenance vehicle with flashing lights.
A first-time violation carries a fine of $250 to $10,000.
