Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer confirmed Monday that starting right guard Jaeden Roberts remains a question mark for the Tide’s season opener against Florida State.
Roberts, a fifth-year senior, has been sidelined due to a concussion and is progressing through the NCAA protocol.
“Jaeden Roberts is still a question, with what he’s going through in (concussion) protocol. He’s progressing,” DeBoer told reporters on Monday.

— Chase Goodbread (@ChaseGoodbread) August 25, 2025After missing the last two weeks of practice, not participating in team scrimmages, Alabama will likely turn to senior Geno VanDeMark, who played in all 13 games for Alabama in 2024.
“We threw him out there for a couple series a game last year,” DeBoer said Monday, via ESPN. “And he did a great job. We’ve referred to him as a Swiss army knife guy so he’s really valuable to us. So you feel like you don’t skip a beat, and he was competing for [a starting spot] in the first place.”
The Tide will also be without running back Jam Miller for the first several weeks of the 2025 season because of a dislocated collarbone sustained in the team’s second scrimmage. He is expected back for the SEC opener against Georgia on Sept. 27.
