TAMPA BAY, FL (WHEC) – The Buffalo Bills won their final preseason game, 23-19, over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and a few borderline players made good cases to be on the initial 53-man roster.
Shane Buechele got the start and had a great passing game, completing 25 of 30 for 278 yards and a touchdown pass.
And the TD throw was the highlight of the game – a one-handed snag from Tyrell Shavers who was falling out of bounds but just barely stayed in. Shavers had a pair of receptions for 24 yards and the score, but that play might have been what put him over the top to make the roster.
Jimmy Ciarlo also continued to impress, making five tackles and coming up with a fumble recovery.
Head coach Sean McDermott noted that there will be tough decisions for the Buffalo Bills coaching staff to make the 53-man cut by Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline.
“There’s a lot at stake for these guys and we don’t take that lightly,” said McDermott. “In some ways they made it awfully hard on us to make some tough decisions over the next couple of days.”
It will be a tough few days for a handful of Buffalo Bills players as cut day approaches.
