You might as well put your frustration with the Chicago Bulls aside for the weekend. While I know it feels like Bulls Fest may be another attempted “money grab” by this organization, I don’t want to be that cynical. The event, which includes plenty of youth clinics and an expansive 3-on-3 competition, is all about bringing the community together. Even the art show in the atrium is a great opportunity for many local artists to have their work seen.
Yes, we can all agree this franchise has experienced an ugly and scarring fall from grace. But the importance of basketball in Chicago continues to run deep. Bulls Fest is an opportunity to celebrate that, and I look forward to stopping by the United Center for a couple of hours this weekend.
via the Chicago Bulls For those diehards, this year’s Bulls Fest probably has the best meet-and-greet list yet. Eddy Curry and Will Perdue spent some time with fans this morning. Meanwhile, the newest additions, Lachlan Olbrich and Noa Essengue, will make their first public appearances as Bulls this afternoon. Tomorrow will be all about the legends. Fan-favorite role player Jud Buechler will join Horace Grant and Bill Cartwright in the atrium for photo ops. Do you think any of them will be sporting a championship ring? If you want more information on Bulls Fest, you can check that out here. The schedule is pretty jam-packed over the next two days, and the gates will be open from 7 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CT. Even Chuck Swirsky is getting in on the fun! The lovable radio play-by-play announcer is selling some of his talking bobbleheads, with proceeds going to Bulls charities! I might have to cop that dancing one …BullsFest '25 is underway. Near Gate 3. — chuck swirsky (@ctsbulls) August 23, 2025 Eddy Curry dropped into the CHSN studio to share some words of wisdom. The former Bulls big man said he spoke with Matas Buzelis as the six-foot-ten forward heads into Year 2. His biggest piece of advice? Be prepared to move up the scouting report.“Bring something in new,” Curry said on CHSN. “Make sure that you add something new to your package because everything you did last year, teams are ready for that. And I think that’s one of the biggest things I don’t think people understand or underestimate about the NBA, is that guys are smart and they also have crazy intel on you. If you learn a new move, pick something up, learn something new, bring in something different because guys are ready for what you did last year.”
The good news is that Matas Buzelis already got a taste of this in Summer League. When he stepped on the floor, the other team’s defense made him their top priority. The Toronto Raptors, in particular, hounded him in Game 1. We were able to see him adjust accordingly, but NBA teams are going to do something similar at times throughout the regular season. This is especially true as he attempts to play a more consistent on-ball role. Nevertheless, Eddy Curry sounded nothing but confident in Buzelis’ ability to have a breakout Year 2. In the same breath as sharing his advice, he gave the 20-year-old some huge props:“Matas is ready, man. I’ve never seen anything like it. The love the energy that he has for the game. He’s so focused. He has tunnel vision. He wants to be great,” Curry said.
The CHGO guys talked through who could start the season at the 3 spot. While Kevin Huerter found himself as a mainstay to end the season, the Bulls will likely be a training camp battle on their hands in October. I think my money would currently be on Isaac Okoro simply because of the defensive versatility he can provide alongside Matas Buzelis. The team has emphasized improving this side of the ball, and Okoro may now very well be the single-best defender on the roster. As Will Gottlieb notes, however, Tre Jones could be the dark horse. Billy Donovan has been known to lean on three-guard lineups in the past, and this front office clearly views Jones highly after rewarding him with a new multi-year deal. Pau Gasol’s two-year run with the Chicago Bulls was incredibly underrated. The dude played outstanding. twitter.com/BullsArchive/status/1958947610351608200 It’s going to be a process for the Bears, which is why I’m not shocked that things looked a lot sloppier at Arrowhead. At least Caleb Williams had an encouraging two-minute drill! Kyle Tucker and Pete Crow Armstrong finally broke out of their slumps in a much-needed win on Friday night!MORE FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
