RCSD teachers’ union files grievance over district payroll issues ...Middle East

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The union that represents teachers in the Rochester City School District is filing a grievance after hundreds of district employees went without pay.

The Rochester Teachers Association is filing the grievance with the New York State Department of Labor, union president Adam Urbanski confirmed in a letter. The payment issues have impacted around 100 teachers and nearly 700 support staff this summer.

As News10NBC has covered for weeks, some RCSD employees went over a month without pay because of technical issues with a new management system called Oracle. The system transition had been more than a decade in the making and cost nearly $46 million. Superintendent Dr. Eric Rosser said the district has identified the issue and is working to fix it before the new school year begins.

Urbanski said the leaders of all four unions within the district met with the superintendent on Thursday to discuss the issues. Urbanski said the district assured the unions that employees will receive their first general paycheck on Sept. 5 and beyond. However, he says the previous payment issues still haven’t been resolved.

News10NBC is working to get a response from the district. In a statement from earlier this month, the district said:

“On July 2, the Rochester City School District transitioned from PeopleSoft to Oracle, a modern platform that supports the District’s financial, human capital, and technology operations. Transitions of this scale in large organizations often involve temporary challenges. The current payroll issues affect a small number of employees and are not systemic. Each situation is being addressed individually, and the District is working to resolve all matters promptly while preventing future disruptions.”
