ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Nazareth University students and alumni participated in “Naz in Action Day,” Thursday, a community engagement initiative aimed at connecting new students with service opportunities in the Rochester area.
Participants were assigned to more than 30 locations for activities such as community cleanups, distributing school supplies and landscaping projects. News10NBC spoke with students volunteering at the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center.
“It’s really important because it builds connections not only for us, between people, but also between the college and these communities,” said Sylvia Whalen-Sgroi, a student volunteer.
Timothy Shafer of the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center said this is a great way for students to see what’s happening in the community, learn how to give back and even learn about different career paths.
“It’s really a great opportunity for them to learn about what we do and understand the impact on the community,” said Timothy Shafer of the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center.
Other community partners included Rochester Greenovation, Taproot Collective and Agape Haven of Abundance.
