CUBS LINEUP — Thanks to some big-time plays (on both sides of the ball) from Willi Castro, Owen Caissie, and Jameson Taillon, the Chicago Cubs managed to sweep both halves of the doubleheader on Tuesday, which was a very pleasant surprise. Now, they have a chance to officially “win” this five-game series against the Brewers tonight, though it won’t be easy. Colin Rea is taking the mound for Chicago and he’ll go up against the 23-year-old phenom, Jacob Misiorowski (more on him below).
In the meantime, here’s a look at the Cubs lineup for the fourth of five games against the Brewers at Wrigley Field.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
Michael Busch, 1B Ian Happ, LF Seiya Suzuki, DH Pete Crow-Armstrong, CF Carson Kelly, C Nico Hoerner, 2B Owen Caissie, RF Dansby Swanson, SS Matt Shaw, 3BOkay, still no Kyle Tucker, and that’s still the right call. I know there were two games yesterday, but he’s really gotten only one day off. I don’t know if he’ll start tomorrow, but I wouldn’t hate letting him just sit out the rest of the series, starting fresh on the road trip this weekend. It sucks, but that’s life. The Cubs need him and he needs this break. So we press on.
In the meantime, his replacement, Owen Caissie, is making life a whole lot more fun. He’s got a hulking, confident presence in the box. And although he’ll swing and miss as he navigates a new league, he’s still (clearly) capable of doing damage and making an impact offensively.
While Caissie takes Tucker’s spot in the field, Ian Happ has taken Tucker’s spot in the lineup, and so far, he’s done all right. He’s got five hits (including two doubles) and a walk over his last three games, and has been on the upswing for a while.
It's been a particularly streaky season for Ian Happ, but he does seem to be on one of his upswings. Since July 26: .268/.361/.479 (133 wRC+) pic.twitter.com/LQui9ZAHg6
— Michael Cerami (@Michael_Cerami) August 20, 2025Obviously – if it’s not clear by my tone – Happ has not had a good season. I’m not arguing that. But we do know that he can get hot and stay hot for months at a time. And I’m just saying, now would be a pretty sweet time for him to pick it back up.
Everyone else is generally where you expect them to be. Now let’s see if the Cubs can win themselves a series over the best team in baseball!
Milwaukee Brewers Lineup:
TBAPitching Matchup:
Chicago Cubs: Colin Rea, RHP
The good news is that Colin Rea has been on another one of his solid+ stretches, with just four earned runs allowed in his last three starts combined. The bad news is that the start just before that stretch came against the Brewers and was not particularly impressive: 4.2 IP, 5H, 2ER, 1BB, 4K.
With a Cubs lineup that is only just starting to show signs of life and Jacob Misiorowski on the mound, Rea will have to be better than he was the last time he faced this team.
Milwaukee Brewers: Jacob Misiorowski, RHP
In his last start against the Cubs, Jacob Misirowoski got put on the ropes early. He was wild, he had a key throwing error, and he was arguably 3-5 pitches away from being pulled right then and there in the first. But he settled in after that, giving the Brewers three more innings with 7 strikeouts, while going nine up, nine down. It was frustrating, but that’s just the type of nastiness this guy has.
That said, he did hit the Injured List just after that start, and he had a very rough first game back against the Reds five days ago: 1.1 IP, 4H, 5ER, 3BB, 3K. But I’m not sure that makes me feel too much better. The Reds are not a terrible team, and Great American Ballpark is very hitter-friendly. Likewise, that was just his first start post-IL, and he was always expected to have a short outing.
I guess I’m saying I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes back out looking as dominant as ever.
