Consumer Alert: That official “Final Notice” you got about your car warranty is not what it seems ...Middle East

News by : (News10NBC) -

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – This consumer alert concerns a deceptive letter that appears to be an official notice. The letter, sent by US Automotive Protection Services, uses urgent language and includes a voucher resembling a check with an expiration date, urging recipients to act quickly.

The letter claims that your vehicle coverage may be expiring and includes details like the make, model, and year of your car. Nothing in the body of the letter tells you who sent it. You only learn that if you’re able to read the tiny print at the bottom of the page.

News10 NBC’S Deanna Dewberry called the toll-free number provided. A representative from US Automotive claimed they offer “dealer direct coverage,” which they said is expected by Ford for repairs. However, local Ford dealerships confirmed they have no relationship with US Automotive Protection Services.

When Dewberry read the tiny print at the bottom of the letter that says US Automotive Protection Services is not affiliated with any auto dealer or manufacturer, the representative admitted, “We’re not affiliated with Ford,” and explained Ford handles manufacturer’s warranties and US Automotive handles extended warranties. He disparaged competing warranty companies like Car Shield saying it was a third-party company and dealers were reluctant to do business with them. He insisted being a “dealer direct made his company superior.

But a simple Google search tells a different story. The Better Business Bureau has given US Automotive an F rating for failing to pay claims and deceptive advertising.

The company was sued by the Wisconsin Attorney General for deceptive advertising and settled the case three years ago. However, their marketing tactics remain unchanged.

US Automotive Protection Services is a third-party warranty company selling policies through misleading marketing materials. If you receive one of these letters, officials recommend discarding it with other junk mail.
