ROCHESTER, N.Y – Low-pressure and frontal boundary will be passing just to the south of Rochester during the next 24 hours. This will likely bring widespread rain to the area overnight. In addition, there is the potential for a few downpours later tonight with the chance of some thunder especially north of the New York State Thruway. This is beneficial rain with an inch or morel by morning. Given the very dry conditions this month the risk of flooding is rather low. The wet weather is expected to continue into Wednesday; however, this will be much lighter with scattered showers.
Tonight, look for occasional light rain for the early evening. Then a few thundery downpours will develop around midnight. The low temperature will be the lower to middle 60s. Wednesday you can expect mainly cloudy skies with scattered light showers. It will be much cooler with most of the day in the 60s and a high temperature near 71 degrees.
The News10NBC First Alert meteorologists continue to track Hurricane Erin which is about 650 miles southwest of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Hurricane Erin is a category two hurricane with winds in excess of 100 miles per hour. The hurricane is expected to be at its closest point to Cape Hutterers by Thursday morning, but the expected track of storm should keep it from reaching the mainland of the United States.
