BROCKPORT, N.Y. — SUNY Brockport President Heidi Macpherson has announced her retirement following the 2025-2026 academic year.
Macpherson, Brockport’s seventh and first female president, began her academic career in 1995 teaching American literature, women’s literature, and creative writing at the University of Central Lancashire in the United Kingdom, the school says.
In 2015, Macpherson succeeded former President John Halstead, coming to Brockport from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse where she served as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs.
During her time as president, the school says Macpherson launched Brockport’s School of Nursing and doctoral programs in nursing practice and education, being the first and only SUNY comprehensive university to offer doctoral degrees.
Macpherson has also led Brockport’s efforts to increase enrollment, which resulted in a 20% growth in enrollment over the past three years, they say.
