Cubs Roster Moves: Assad, Little, Hollowell ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Ahead of today’s double-header against the Brewers, the Cubs made a trio of pitching moves (with more to come between games).

Cubs news:– Gavin Hollowell will serve as 27th man – Javier Assad optioned to Iowa – Luke Little recalled

With Javier Assad having started this weekend, the Cubs decided they would prefer to add another fresh arm for the double-header, and then figure out his starting spot in five days (he’s not eligible to come back up for 15 days unless there’s an injury). Ben Brown is still up and is pitching on the same schedule, so it’s possible he takes that start, or it’s possible the Cubs bring up an arm from Triple-A. They don’t have an off-day again until next Monday.

Meanwhile, Luke Little comes up to take Assad’s place on the active roster, and then Gavin Hollowell is up as the extra man for the double-header. That doesn’t mean he has to be the one who goes back down at the end of the day, but he might’ve been that guy anyway. It’s entirely possible that Little is simply optioned between games when Jameson Taillon returns to start game two.

That is to say, there are still a lot of open questions going forward, and lot might simply depend on how this first game plays out.
