Chicago forecast: Another round of storms with torrential downpours, severe weather possible ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

A round of storms with the chance for torrential downpours and damaging winds were in the Chicago forecast Monday, the NBC 5 Storm Team said, along with hot and muggy conditions as humidity rises through the afternoon.

The rainy forecast comes as hundreds across the area remain without power after severe storms over the weekend left a trail of damage for some, including downed trees and ripped-off roofs.

According to NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Kevin Jeanes, Monday started out mild, with temperatures in the 70s. Humidity was expected to increase throughout the day, Jeanes said, leading to a muggy afternoon with “feels-like” temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90s.

The National Weather Service warned that hot and humid conditions would peak in the afternoon, with heat indices near or just above 100 degrees away from Lake Michigan. A high swim risk was also in effect at Lake Michigan beaches, with high waves and dangerous currents expected through the morning.

Early Monday morning, some areas to the west were seeing quick-moving isolated showers, Jeanes said. After that, pop-up storm chances pick up as early as 2 p.m., with a higher likelihood of stormy weather expected to develop after 6 p.m. and through 10 p.m.

“Some storms may have wind gusts strong enough to be severe,” Jeanes said. Torrential downpours were also possible as the humidity rises, along with frequent lightning.

Some could see localized flooding, Jeanes said, as rain and storms were expected to continue into the night.

While Tuesday will also see humid conditions, dew points will begin dropping by Wednesday, Jeanes said, with high temperatures in the upper 70s. By next week, temperatures will be even cooler, with below-average readings expected over the next six to 10 days.
