CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — A man will attempt to swim the entire length of Canandaigua Lake, about 16 miles, on Monday. It’s to raise money for families impacted by cancer.
Luca Spagnolo has organized a fundraiser for two people currently battling cancer. He tells us the loss of his cousin to brain cancer motivated him to take on this challenge. The money raised will go to the families of Derek from Newfield in Tompkins County and Charlotte, who lives in Farmington, both fighting cancer.
“I’m just glad to be using it for a good cause. I figured if I’m gonna do something anyways, I might as well make something good of it. So I just found a few local families that are going through a rough time with their illnesses. And so I figured it’d be cool to kind of uplift their spirits and maybe help them through some medical bills and whatever they have going on just to kind of get them just in a better headspace,” Spagnolo said.
He will be setting off around 6 a.m. Monday from near the pavilion at Kershaw Park.
