Javier Assad made another abbreviated start for the Cubs, going four innings of one-run ball, and letting the bullpen take it from there. Even Ben Brown, who gave up the two other runs, wasn’t all that bad. Well-pitched game overall.

The Cubs had a whole lot of loud contact today that turned into outs (some bad luck, some wind), which is not gonna soften anyone’s feelings about the offense of late (it doesn’t mine), but it was true today. So those four runs, on a normal day, could’ve been a lot more. Hopefully the decent signs are starting to come together and will actually produce turnarounds for these guys.

Ian Happ is the Ankin Law “Making It Personal” Player of the Game thanks to his single, double, walk, run, and RBI performance. Nod to Dansby Swanson for the game-winning sac fly, too.
