Paul Finebaum never hides from controversy, especially when it involves a certain something he’s passionate about.
On Friday, during The Paul Finebaum Show, the longtime college football analyst who’s known to give it to the Big Ten when he so desires, did exactly that with his latest rant.
Finebaum’s Big Ten target this time? Well, Michigan, of course, because the NCAA had just come down with its ruling on the Wolverines’ sign-stealing scheme. In the NCAA’s ruling, former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh was hit with a 10-year show-cause by the NCAA as part of a list of sanctions levied against the program.
So, there were penalties for Michigan in the aftermath of all this. But there was a problem for Finebaum — a big problem. Because the NCAA didn’t vacate Michigan’s 2023 national championship, vacate any victories over the period that was otherwise being penalized, and it didn’t slap Michigan with any kind of postseason ban.
For Finebaum, all of this was inexcusable and unacceptable, and he made sure his audience heard him.
“What bugs me is the hypocrisy of the Michigan fan base. They are easily the most despicable group of overzealous fans I’ve ever dealt with. The fact that they tried to act like they have a legitimate national championship, they don’t. The banners won’t come down, the trophies will remain, but everybody knows they cheated like bandits,” said Finebaum.

For Finebaum, it wasn’t nearly enough, and he took out his rage on the program and its fans.
