ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A moderate drought continues from western Monroe County into Genesee and Orleans Counties. The remainder of Western New York is listed as abnormally dry. A few rain showers are in the forecast as a cold front will cross the area for Sunday. However, the amount of rain will be limited to less than a quarter of an inch over the next 24 hours with some areas probably seeing just a few drops of rain. Naturally, this will do little, if anything, to alleviate the drought.
Tonight, look for fair skies with increasing clouds after midnight. The low temperature will be in the upper 60s. Sunday will start muggy with a passing shower or thundershower possible into the early afternoon. The high temperature will be near 80 degrees, but the humidity will start to fall in the afternoon. Monday will be mostly sunny and once again very dry. The high temperature will be in the middle 70s.
The News10NBC First Alert meteorologists are also tracking Hurricane Erin. This hurricane is now a category five storm with winds in excess of 160 miles per hour. It is located 175 miles north of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The current track should keep the dangerous storm well off the east coast of the United States with large waves and significant rip tides being the greatest threat.
