ROCHESTER, N.Y. – High pressure will be in control of our weather for Saturday, which means dry weather, a lot of sunshine and temperatures warming into the upper 80s to near 90 degrees away from the Lake Ontario shoreline. Those communities closer to the lake will enjoy a fresher breeze and temperatures a little cooler. A cold front will approach on Sunday, bringing more clouds and the chance for a few showers or some thunder. Any rain will get will be spotty, meaning not everybody will see wet weather. High pressure moves back in following Sunday’s cold front, but the heat that we’ve grown accustomed to this summer will be washed away. Highs will hold in the 70s through much of next week. We’ll see a clearing sky and low humidity on Monday. Then a few showers are possible both Tuesday and Wednesday as another weak wave of low pressure approaches from the west.
Meanwhile, the first named hurricane of the Atlantic season has formed. Erin is spinning in the Atlantic, and forecast to become a major category 3 or 4 storm over the weekend. It is forecast to pass north of Puerto Rico, and east of the Bahamas as it turns northward. It is also forecast to stay east of the East Coast of the US, and west of Bermuda. So, at this point, no direct impact on the US, but there will likely be rough seas, high surf and rip currents along the East Coast beaches.
