Versatile auto-tint sunglasses for your everyday Sun Pro needs.
When it comes to sunglasses, my wife and I have frequently sided with quantity over quality. We have used several dollar store, Walmart, or 3-pair for $19.99 mall-kiosk glasses for driving and routine every-day activities. It thus did not hurt too much to lose or to break a pair. Instead, I settled for a glasses in which I disliked the tint, the feel, the weight, or the shoddy materials/design. In fact, on a recent family trip to San Diego, I broke three pairs of cheap sunglasses in a single day while wearing them. My kids and I were playing at the beach, without rough-housing or strenuous activity, and they simply snapped at the hinge, temple arms, or nose piece. My wife jokingly stated that the glasses were no match for my fat head.
Even though I was mildly far-sighted as a child, I never wore glasses. Sun glasses always felt like an afterthought or activity specific accessory and were never part of my day-to-day routine. I never got to experience transitions like my dad, my wife, or many of my friends. I liked the Tony Stark Ironman glasses, the Tom Cruise Top Gun glasses, and many others from nostalgic movie scenes, but never felt that the cheap glasses lived up to the iconic imagery. Additionally, I felt like I forgot or left them behind when I needed them. I wanted an upgrade to my run-of-the mill glasses and was excited to learn about the Chamelo Prime glasses/tech.
Packaging:
The Chamelo Prime glasses arrived in a classy 7 inches long by 4 1/4 inches tall by 2 9/16 inches thick retail package. The outer slipcover’s main panel had a centralized nested star-shaped design, with the chamelo name within the center. The upper/lower panels displayed part of the geometric design, but also had either a drawing of the moon phases, or a “SWITCH UP YOUR LOOK” slogan. The back panel had a centralized large sticker, which provided a photograph-quality image of the glasses, detailed the matte black frame, fire lens, VLT% 45-9% (Cat. 1-3), the CHAMELO name, email address, social media handles and UPC barcode. You will find a similar angular, geometric design upon the white background like the cover panel. The slipcover was inviting, clean-appearing, and well laid out.
I removed the outer slipcover, and found the inner box had the same design features as above. I would have liked a specifications table or other details on the bottom panel, instead of the same geometric design. I opened the magnetic front lid, and removed the black, thatched, hard-shell, glasses case with gold chamelo name (6 7/16 inches long by 2 13/16 inches tall by 2 3/16 inches tall). The classes case had a front magnetic closure, rigid frame, flat front panel, rounded back/top panels, and was just big enough to encompass the glasses. Next, I removed the two accessory boxes and the instruction manual.
Unboxing/Accessories:
The first box labeled “CABLE” measured 3 3/8 inches long by 2 1/8 inches tall by 3/4 inches thick and had a cable icon at the top and the word cable listed on the front. The box housed the 23 3/4 inches long USB-A to magnetic charger. The USB-A prong was secure, well designed and had a standard USB body/frame. The 1/8 inch diameter cable attached to the USB-A body via a 1/4 inches wide neck segment. The round cable attached distally to the 1-inch long by 1/4 inches thick wide by 3/8 inches tall magnetic charger port. The segment had an included neck region to protect the cable. At the price point of the device, and with USB-C’s status as industry standard, I found it odd that the glasses shipped with a USB-A prong instead of a USB-C prong. At the very least, there should have been an adapter in the box or attached to the cable to allow USB-A or USB-C charging. Additionally, it is important to note that if you lose the cable, you will not be able to charge the glasses. My family had a similar setback/experience when my son lost his magnetic Fitbit charger.
The second box labeled “WIPING CLOTH” measured 3 3/8 inches long by 2 3/16 inches tall by 3/4 inches thick and had a drawing/icon of a lens cloth on the top and a generic WIPING CLOTH name on the front panel. You will find two self-contained baggies within the box. The first bag had a pair of accessory nose pads, while the second bag had a 6-inches square, tan microfiber lens cloth with chamelo name. The cloth had a fine-linen appearance/feel and provided a ritzy, high-end ambience. Before disposing of the packaging, make sure to remove the instruction manual, social medial card, and scan the QR code on the registration panel/$20 gift card voucher to register the device. The instruction manual displayed the product/name on the main panel, provided a short welcome/description of the glasses, a contents list, and then a quick start guide.
You will need to fully charge the glasses before first use. Once they are charged, open the arms to power the glasses on, short press the right button to switch between Autopilot and Manual modes, or use the slider on the right arm for manual tint adjustment. Next, the manual provided a very helpful, labeled-diagram of the glasses (IPX4 waterproof, tint slider, flexible liquid crystal film, UV400, magnetic charging [under right arm], manual/automatic button [under right arm], and the indicator light. Lastly, you will find a style/fit guideline detailing the proper method to wear/enjoy the glasses. The back segment of the instruction manual provided information about the tint control, Autopilot vs Manual modes, the button utility to switch between modes, and
