TEMPE — Mountain America Stadium visitors will notice some new tweaks when Arizona State football opens its season on Aug. 30.

The most notable is premium field box seating down in the north end zone adjacent to the Pat Tillman statue the team fist bumps as it runs out from the locker room.

The premium tickets will be sold in sets of four for the entire season, with 12 sets (48 tickets) in total.

“We always want to show progression and I don’t think we’re ever done,” ASU athletic director Graham Rossini told Arizona Sports. “We’re really driving changes based on feedback that we’re getting from our season ticket holders.

“When 96% renew (their season tickets), that’s a good indicator of them having a good time here.”

While there’s 4% that didn’t re-up — and Kenny Dillingham made it known he’s hurting over the number — ASU has sold 7,500 new season tickets and its premium seating has sold out.

Some of the other changes at the stadium include new concessions, as well as a new way to acquire those concessions. Grab-and-go and self-service stands will be instituted in an effort to speed up service, including a beverage stand powered by A.I.

ASU is also expanding its partnership with Huss Brewing Co., a local brewery that approached the university about creating its official craft beer, the Devil’s Halo.

In addition to the lager being available at ASU venues and Valley-wide, there’s now a Huss Hideout located near other premium club options.

Other Arizona State facility project updates

Indoor football facility fundraising efforts

Rossini said Arizona State hopes to “make meaningful progress in the next 30 days on the specific location, the specific scope, the specific cost” of the indoor football facility Dillingham introduced at the beginning of fall camp.

Dillingham has mentioned using the 16th hole at the WM Phoenix Open as a model for the structure, which will double as tailgate space for fans on game days. Not much else had been known about its design.

“We’re lucky in the Valley that we don’t need a full enclosure,” Rossini said. “We need protection from the sun. We need air movement with big fans. We need technology that allows our team to get better every single day.

“And then we want that versatility where we can flip it into a watch party or a really great tailgate on a game day. … The fact that it can benefit the football team and the fan base at the same time makes it a great project.”

Rossini said multiple seven-figure donations have been made toward the facility, giving ASU more than $6 million of the “$40-50 million” the project will require.

Dillingham has previously said ASU would cover the rest of the costs after $15-20 million is fundraised externally.

Camp T’s long-term tenability

ASU deals with a lot of moving parts surrounding the annual trip to Camp T, but despite the logistical hassles, it’s here to stay.

“We’re committed to continuing the presence of Camp T, and we’re mindful of there’s probably operational tweaks and some adjustments that we can make year-to-year, but we want to protect the charm of it,” Rossini said. “I think we’re challenged with how do we keep up with demand, how do we keep up with parking logistics?

“ADOT is an incredible partner, the town of Payson is an incredible partner of the surrounding area. We want to be mindful of the footprint. We’re going into these smaller towns and we want to make sure that they’re welcoming our presence and that’s not something that they’re frustrated with or that has a negative effect.”

He added this year’s trip had an especially smooth food aspect, as stadium hospitality partner Aramark also made the trip.

Sol Devils fund weight room renovations

The Sol Devils booster organization, which was responsible for the turf field installed at Camp T several years ago, recently raised $1.5 million for weight room renovations.

The idea started when strength and conditioning coach Joe Connolly introduced some of the boosters to a new technology that could accelerate strength work and recovery times.

“They all said, ‘Alright, we’re going to champion this thing.’ And for $1.5 million to come together in less than two weeks is a pretty cool outcome,” Rossini said. “The Sol Devils continue to step up. Incredible group of supporters and we’re just very grateful for what they’ve done for us.”

Desert Financial Arena progress

Phase 1 of major work at Desert Financial Arena will begin summer 2026 after graduations are over, Rossini said. An official announcement will come before the upcoming basketball season.

“We’re still discussing what comes beyond Phase 1 and we’d like to announce as much as possible (about) the scope,” the AD said. “We want to review that with the leadership of Desert Financial Credit Union.”

He asked for die-hard basketball fans who want to contribute toward the renovations to reach out and connect with ASU to talk about what the project could look like.
