Local students present environmental health research findings at public market ...Middle East

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A group of high school students from Rochester presented the results of their summer-long environmental health research projects Thursday.

The event took place at the Rochester Public Market, marking the conclusion of the Environmental Health Ambassadors Program. This six-week initiative teaches local youth to advocate for healthy communities and ecosystems.

Teams of students developed research questions and surveyed people on issues ranging from air quality to gun violence. Their findings were displayed on posters and discussed with the public.

Their presentations kind of marked the end of the program, said Lindsay Clark, the Director of Growth & Development at Rochester Ecology Partners.

“I think the biggest thing is giving these students an opportunity to see themselves as agents of change in their community,” said Clark.

The event was funded by a pilot grant from the University of Rochester. Organizers hope to make this model a recurring opportunity for Rochester youth.
