Jordan Health’s pharmacy still unable to fill prescriptions for low-income Medicaid patients ...Middle East

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Jordan Health’s pharmacy, opened to serve low-income neighborhoods, has yet to fill prescriptions for Medicaid patients. Despite being operational for nearly a year, the pharmacy is still awaiting state certification to accept Medicaid prescriptions.

The state requires a pharmacy to be open and operating before it can be certified to accept prescriptions from Medicaid patients.

“Despite our efforts to undergo the application process to accept Medicaid customers, we are still not able to service everyone because we have yet to receive that approval from NYS to service our Medicaid clients,” said Dr. Linda Clark, CEO of Jordan Health.

70% of patients at Jordan Health have Medicaid, and three-quarters of them need medication. As a result, they must fill their prescriptions elsewhere.

Mayor Malik Evans praised Jordan Health for stepping up when other pharmacies closed in the community.

“Jordan stepped up when other folks stepped out on our community, they stepped up,” Evans said. “If you remember, pharmacies were closing right and left in our community and I was very very concerned.”

Jordan Health has enlisted the help of state leaders to expedite the application process in Albany. Officials have promised to move quickly to address the issue.
