Warranted or not, plenty of narratives surround Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray entering his seventh NFL season.
But questioning his accuracy, especially on the deep ball (20 yards or more), shouldn’t be one of them, the signal caller told Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo on Friday.

“I don’t think accuracy has ever been an issue in my game,” Murray said. “And that’s just me talking to y’all. … I’ve never not been accurate. That’s egregious.”
For the most part, Murray’s got a point.

Since entering the league in 2019, the signal caller has turned in some impressive numbers from a deep-ball standpoint.
That includes an 18-touchdown, three-interception stretch from 2020-21, according to Pro Football Focus. He completed at least 42.2% of his throws in each of those two seasons.
His first full season post-ACL tear wasn’t the same story, throwing six touchdowns to five interceptions on 34.5% passing in 2024.
Murray saw fewer attempts than he saw in previous seasons before the ACL tear yet still had better deep ball numbers than say Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes (four touchdowns, four interceptions, 26.1% passing).
With an expected Year 2 leap from Marvin Harrison Jr., the emergence of Zay Jones at WR3 and tight end Trey McBride’s continued ascension, the potential is there for Murray to improve upon those numbers in 2025, especially after seeing plays like this at training camp.

We all know head coach Jonathan Gannon likes his explosive plays. Murray getting back to some of that prior success, while remaining within the confines of offensive coordinator Drew Petzing’s run-heavy scheme, could be big in the unit taking that next step everyone is expecting.
“We weren’t as explosive as we wanted to be last year or the fans wanted us to be as far as going down field. But as far as making explosive plays, there was explosive plays all over the field,” Murray said. “We ran the hell out of the ball. If you look at the first half of my career, I don’t think we had issues as far as explosives down field.”
