Day 3 Prelims Heat Sheet

While one Singapore individual medalist is making their first appearance in the prelims session another has opted to drop their only event of the meet. Worlds Bronze medalist in the 200 free Claire Weinstein will make her prelim debut in the 100 free, while Worlds Silver medalist Krzysztof Chmielewski has scratched the 50 fly.

Chmielewski, who represented his native country of Poland at Worlds, was the 11th seed in the men’s 50 fly, behind the top seed, Caeleb Dressel. The Pole, who swims collegiately for USC, was only entered in this event and while he has opted out of the meet, Weinstein has opted in. The future Cal Bear made her first appearance last night swimming the opening leg of the relay after having previously scratched the 50 breast and 400 free earlier in the meet. Weinstein is the top seed with a time of 53.72 but Australia’s Jaimie De Lutiis is not far back at 53.96.

The men’s 100 free sees three Americans atop the field with Hunter Armstong atop the field at 47.59 leading Brooks Curry and Grant House. Armstrong has a busy day ahead of him as he is also slated to swim the 50 fly and 100 back. In the fly, he slated to swim in the last heat with the American Record holder, Dressel, and Armstrong is the top seed in the 100 back and will look to hold off the likes of Adam Chaney, as each are looking for a spot on the Pan-Pacs roster.

Whereas Armstong may DNS an event this morning to avoid a tough triple, Bella Sims has already made the decision to avoid swimming multiple events as she has scratched the 400 IM in order to concentrate on the 100 free where she is the 4th seed. Sims entered with a yards time of 4:00.44 was the 21st seed and was joined in withdrawing from the event by the #4 seed Michaela Mattes and #25 seed Rowyn Wilber. Justina Kozan, the top seed in the event, too avoided a double but took the opposite direction of Sims, by dropping the 100 free in favor of this event.
