In exchange, the Red Sox get upwards of three or four years of his free agency six+ years ahead of time, ensuring that they’ll have control of Anthony through his 20’s.
The Cubs, you should remember, were reportedly far short of this level in their attempt to extend Pete Crow-Armstrong back in the spring, though that was before his next-level breakout this year. Although Anthony’s offensive upside is probably quite a bit more substantial than PCA’s, the latter is an elite defensive center fielder, and also had more service time coming into this year. You can presume he and his camp are paying close attention to this contract.
