LA28 Chairman Casey Wasserman joined President Trump at the White House Tuesday afternoon for the signing. Wasserman thanked President Trump in a statement Monday and called the task force an “important step” in preparing Los Angeles for its third Olympics.
“On behalf of LA28, I want to express our deep appreciation to President Trump and his Administration for their leadership and unwavering support as we prepare to deliver the largest and most ambitious Olympic and Paralympic Games ever hosted in the United States,” Wasserman said. “Since we secured this historic opportunity in 2017, President Trump has consistently recognized the magnitude of our responsibility in welcoming the world to Los Angeles.
“The creation of this task force marks an important step forward in our planning efforts and reflects our shared commitment to delivering not just the biggest, but the greatest Games the world has ever seen in the summer of 2028.”
The task force will include members from the President’s cabinet and government agencies, who will coordinate federal, state and local government work on security, transportation and other tasks. Task force members introduced at Tuesday’s White House event included Vice President JD Vance, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, FCC Chair Brendan Carr and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller.
“It was very exciting day in my life when we got nominated and ultimately got it,” Trump said Tuesday. “America is a nation of champions and in July 2028 we’ll show the world what a America does best.”

The task force will “streamline visa processing and credentialing for foreign athletes, coaches, officials, and media,” according to a Reuters report, shared by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
Wasserman said LA will welcome about 150 heads of state and 11,000 Olympians during the competition. The LA28 Paralympic Games will follow in mid-August.
“This will be the equivalent of producing seven Super Bowls a day for 30 days,” Wasserman said, adding that LA28’s Games plan is nearly complete.
Journalist Alan Abrahamson, who has covered 13 Olympics, said the executive order shows the White House is committed to the success of LA28. The organizing committee is privately financed, so the support of the federal government will play a key role in security, transport and other vital components of welcoming the world to Los Angeles, Abrahamson said.
“What matters is that President Trump is personally invested in the 2028 Olympics,” said Abrahamson, an associate professor at USC’s journalism school. “If the 2028 Olympics are a win, that’s a win for him.”
“The trick is to try to make the security as seamless, as efficient, and as discreet as possible, so that people don’t feel like, ‘Oh my God, I go around the corner and there’s someone with an M16, a soldier.'”
In March, the President signed an executive order establishing a similar White House task force for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States. The group, chaired by President Trump, coordinates with federal agencies in preparation for the international soccer event, which includes games in Los Angeles.
Trump has said the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics are among the events he’s most looking forward to in his second term.
“It’s a great time to be a sports fan in America,” Trump said Tuesday.
On Tuesday, the governments of the three World Cup hosts countries said they convened a meeting of government officials, industry leaders and security professional to discuss preparations, including security measures, for the international event.
