Even with the NBA Draft and free agency in the rearview mirror, the Giannis Antetokounmpo rumors have yet to go away.
ESPN’s Shams Charania has remained adamant that the Milwaukee Bucks superstar is uncertain about his future with the franchise. He reaffirmed that information on Monday morning, reporting that Antetokounmpo is still considering suiting up for a different team as soon as next season.
“As we sit here, sources tell me that there is nothing set in stone about whether Giannis Antetokounmpo wants to stay in Milwaukee or whether he wants to leave elsewhere,” Charania said on ESPN’s First Take. “He has been evaluating his future this entire offseason. I reported way back in mid-May that he is open-minded about whether his best fit is Milwaukee or is in a trade elsewhere. That process has been continuing.”
Charania went on to stress that Antetokounmpo is weighing whether or not the Bucks can be true championship contenders next season. The organization made a drastic move to hopefully bolster its chances in free agency. With Damian Lillard projected to miss the entirety of 2025-26 due to a torn Achilles, the Bucks chose to stretch-and-waive his contract to sign big man Myles Turner away from the Indiana Pacers.

While Shams Charania continues to report skepticism from Giannis Antetokounmpo’s camp, the man of the hour has yet to give Bucks fans a reason to worry.
Antetokounmpo reiterated on a recent livestream with popular influencer IShowSpeed that he “loves” Milwaukee and that he will “probably” be back in a Bucks uniform next season. Fast forward to only a handful of hours after Charania’s comments, and Antetokounmpo offered an even stronger stance. The big man was on a livestream with sports memorabilia company Goldin and shared a story about giving autographs. After stating that he shortened his signature with expectations of having a long career, a fan from the crowd yelled, “All in Milwaukee.” Antetokounmpo proceeded to wink at the crowd and repeat, “All in Milwaukee, baby.”
The moment was posted to social media here:

— Van Fayaz (@lohausfan) August 4, 2025Someone as well-sourced as Charania does not merely say something to say it. There must be a legitimate level of skepticism out there regarding Antetokounmpo’s situation, and any level is notable when we’re talking about someone as impactful as him. Now, does it still feel far more likely than not that Antetokoumpo is back at the Fiserv Forum next season? Absolutely. But, as the Luka Doncic trade reminded us only a handful of months ago, anything is possible in the NBA!
Maybe now would be a good time to remind Giannis of all those nice things he said about Chicago!
If one thing is for sure, everyone will continue to watch this story closely. What Antetokoumpo chooses to do will have a significant impact on the state of the Eastern Conference. The door to the East Finals is cracked open next season with both Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton likely to miss all of the 2025-26 campaign. If Antetokoumpo does decide to request a change of scenery, that door will open that much further with the Bucks likely to stumble down the standings.
