Once again, it was Lithuanian star Ruta Meilutyte who stood atop the podium, clocking a winning time of 29.55. Meilutyte continues to prove she’s the swimmer to beat in this event, delivering yet another commanding performance.
Pilato touched in 30.14, adding another impressive chapter to her career, one that began on the world stage at just 14 years old at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju.
With this result, Pilato has now won a medal in the 50 breast at five consecutive World Championships. This marks a remarkable run of consistency in one of the sport’s most unpredictable sprint events. It’s worth noting that while the World Championships were not held in 2021 due to the pandemic, the addition of the extra Doha edition in 2024 has kept the total number of meets over the past seven years in line with the standard championship cycle.
Still only 20 years old, Pilato is proving to be one of the most consistent performers in the 50 breaststroke, an event set to join the Olympic program starting in Los Angeles 2028.
