His last ring came in the ace lefty Sabathia’s first season with the Yankees in 2009.
The pair would play together for six seasons, and Jeter would become a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 2020.
Then, five years later, the six-time All-Star Sabathia would get the call to have his name enshrined in the first year of Cooperstown eligibility.
Jeter and his family appeared at the Baseball Hall of Fame Parade of Legends in Cooperstown, New York, on Saturday, July 26.
The U.S. Sun caught up with Jeter at the event’s red carpet and asked him about posting 13 hits in 26 at-bats against Sabathia while he was a pitcher for the Cleveland Indians.
Jeter seemed not to know about the fun fact and said, “Please remind him of that.”
But the 51-year-old then shifted the focus to his days as Sabathia’s teammate and the pitcher’s career achievement.
“I loved facing CC. But more importantly, I loved playing with him,” Jeter said.
“One of the best, obviously, to ever do it.
“He’s in his rightful place.”
Jeter was then asked about the fact that two former Yankees teammates, Sabathia and Ichiro Suzuki, were inducted in the same year.
“Awesome, awesome. I’m excited about this weekend,” he said.
Another Yankees legend reacted to Sabathia’s induction: Mariano Rivera, widely considered the best closer in baseball history.

What was his favorite moment of Sabathia?
“Too many… 2009,” Rivera answered.
After a seven-plus-year career with the Indians and a short stay with the Milwaukee Brewers, Sabathia signed a seven-year, $161 million contract with the Yankees in the 2008 offseason.

He’d play nine more seasons with the Yankees, where he’d earn three All-Star appearances.
Sabathia finished his 19-season career with over 3,000 strikeouts, making him one of 18 pitchers to accomplish this feat.
