Kane Wommack gave an update on injured defensive back Keon Sabb after practice on Saturday, and the Alabama defensive coordinator had encouraging words regarding his return.
“He’s really pushed our training staff, and they’ve done a great job with him. He’s ahead of really every marker that we had in the offseason for him. We weren’t sure that he was going to go to the level he’s going at right now in fall camp. He’s out there playing with our guys, so he’s comfortable enough to be able to do that. I think that’s really something he’s pushed himself right now, to be ready,” said Wommack.
The junior never made it back on the field last season after playing in Alabama’s loss to Tennessee on Oct. 18. He suffered a lower-body injury and missed the final 6 games of the season, including the ReliaQuest Bowl. But even though Sabb played against Tennessee, he was dealing with the injury a few weeks before that, so it wasn’t the debut season in Tuscaloosa that Sabb envisioned after he transferred from Michigan following the 2023 season.
Sabb wants to make up for that in 2025, and Wommack believes he’s on the right track toward getting the opportunity to do that.
