First United Nations Delegation Reaches Suwayda ...Syria

News by : (ُEnabbaladi) -

The first joint mission from United Nations agencies arrived in Syria’s Suwayda province on Thursday, 31 July, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

The UN team visited the towns of Shahba and Salkhad, where they met with local community representatives and assessed the conditions of displacement sites and reception centers. The team conducted evaluations across Suwayda’s three administrative areas: Suwayda, Salkhad, and Shahba.

The United Nations also announced the delivery of a humanitarian aid convoy to Suwayda, amid worsening security conditions and a sharp rise in humanitarian needs following a wave of mass displacement in the region.

The joint UN convoy, organized in partnership with humanitarian organizations, included 40 trucks carrying food, medical supplies, fuel, hygiene items, shelter materials, and equipment to support health facilities, bakeries, and other critical infrastructure in the governorate.

According to a statement by OCHA, more than 175,000 people from various parts of southern Syria have been displaced in recent weeks, further complicating the humanitarian situation in an area that already suffers from limited access to basic services.

The UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria, Adam Abdelmoula, described the convoy as a “critical step” in expanding access and scaling up the humanitarian response in Suwayda, where needs remain high.

The United Nations reaffirmed its commitment to working with all parties to ensure the sustained delivery of aid across Syria—particularly to communities facing “severe humanitarian conditions.”

Justice Ministry Forms Committee to Investigate Suwayda Events

In parallel, the Syrian Ministry of Justice announced the formation of a committee to investigate the recent events in Suwayda, under Resolution No. 1287, issued on Thursday, 31 July.

The committee is tasked with uncovering the circumstances surrounding the recent events and investigating violations and assaults against civilians. Those found to be involved in such violations will be referred to the judiciary, according to the resolution.
