There had been rumors connecting the Cubs to Nationals closer Kyle Finnegan, at least loosely, but you can scratch him off the list if he were ever truly on there. The Cubs were obviously talking to the Nationals about Mike Soroka (and MacKenzie Gore, probably!), so if they’d wanted Finnegan, I’m sure they could’ve made a push.
He’s headed to the Tigers, though, per Ken Rosenthal. The return isn’t out yet, but it’ll be interesting to see. The market has been quite pricey, but Finnegan doesn’t have the best numbers or the track record consistent with your typical closer. I also kinda want to see if the market will start to cool at all as we get closer to the 5pm CT deadline.
